Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Police then located multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior official commented the incident made him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
